India's Rishika Sunkara and Vaidik Munshaw reached the semifinals of girls and boys singles respectively after notching up contrasting wins in the ITF Asian Junior Tennis Championship in New Delhi on Friday. Seventh seed Sunkara pulled off a major upset by beating top seed Eri Hozumi of Japan 7-6, 6-0 in a hard-fought girls' singles quarter final match, while sixth seed Vaidik beat compatriot Mansingh Athare 6-2, 6-3 to reach the final four in the boys singles category at the RK Tennis Stadium. Vaidik will now take on second seed Bowen Ouyang ofChina, who ended the challenge of spirited Indian Ronit Singh Bisht in the other quarter-final. However, it was curtains for fourth seed Sai Kartik Nakireddi who lost 2-6, 1-6 to eighth seed Warit Sornbutnark of Thailand in the third quarter-final match. Ninth seed Rakshay Thakkar also fell short of a semifinal berth when he lost to top seed Chuhan Wang of China in straight sets. In the girls section, besides Sunkara, Chinese second seed Ran Tian, her compatriot Lin Zhu and ninth seed Miho Kowase of Japan also booked their places in the semifinal.
