The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has re-discovered an ancient route of the Kailash Mansarover Yatra from Gala to Kathgodam. This was disclosed by the Director General of ITBP, R.K. Bhatia at a book-release function in New Delhi on Thursday. He informed that this route can be used as an alternative in case of an accident on the existing route of the holy Yatra.

He said that the Yatra can be carried out only with Chinese co-operation and the re-discovered route does not decrease the Indian dependence on China in any way.

However, he added that the existing route is the easiest and the safest to follow. The 4th batch of Kailash Mansarovar Yatris will leave for Almora from New delhi on Saturday. Our correspondent reports that Yatris from all over the country are participating in the journey.

Despite being the most difficult and challenging of journeys, the enthusiasm of the Yatris remains unabated. The existing route passes through Dharchula, Tavaghat, mangti, Gala, Gunji, Kalapani and Lipulekh in Indian territory to reach Kailash Mansarovar in China. The journey will last for 26 days.
