Italy has informed the Kerala High Court that it has initiated criminal proceedings against their marines Latore
Massimiliano and Salvatore Gironi invloved in the killing of two Kerela fishermen. It also submitted the documents in the court showing that criminal proceedings were initiated against the two marines.

Under the Italian Penal Code, whoever causes the death of a person is punished with imprisonment for not less than 21 years. The Court directed the Italian Consul General in Mumbai to produce the authority to represent his country in the case. The incident happened on the 15th of last month.

Meanwhile, the police custody of the marines has been extended by a Kollam court till March 5.
