Italian hostage crisis: Significant progress made in talks

Significant progress is being made in the on-going talk between representatives of government and Maoists to seek safe release of an Italian national and one BJD MLA. This was stated in Bhubaneswar by the interlocutor B D Sharma after an interval of the first round of talks on Monday. He said soon a final decision would be taken to ensure secure release of the abducted.

The issue rocked the state assembly on Monday. Opposition congress stalled the days proceedings demanding CBI inquiry into the alleged link between BJD and Maoists in Koraput district. The state Chief minister Naveen Patnaik again appealed to Maoists to release his party man and one foreign tourist unhurt.

AIR correspondent reports, as the discussion is on to secure the safe release of the abducted foreigner and a BJD MLA placard rallies, peace march are being held in various parts of the state. School students, human rights activists and other socio cultural organization have taken part in this. In the meantime the government has not received any specific demands from the Maoists group regarding the release of the young BJD MLA.

However unconfirmed sources reveal some of the demands like implementation of agreement reached during the abduction of the then Malkangiri collector Vineeel Krishan, closing of operation of Green haunt , release of MAO cadres and other innocent tribal lodged in several jails are some of the preconditions to release the hostages.
