IT Minister calls upon int. community to bride gap between technologies

Communication and IT Minister A. Raja has today called upon the International Community to make efforts to bridge the digital divide. Inaugurating the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-2010) in Hyderabad , he suggested establishing an appropriate legal and regulatory environment to ensure optimum use of the technology to be vigilant about possible misuse of information and Communication Technologies by disgruntled elements. <br/>Stating that the nation’s space policy has been focussed on development of Communications, Broadcasting and developmental communications, the Minister said Information Technology has been considered as an agent for creating Knowledge Society and a transformer of Human Life. Stating that India has been making rapid strides in innovating and adopting new technology, the minister said the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) has been developing technologies for the growth of Telecommunication Technology and digitalisation of telecom network. He also said 20 million telephone connections are being added every month in our country to the existing 600 million telephone connection network, the second largest network. <br/>Later, speaking at a press conference, Secretary P J Thomas said India has been looking forward for a real roadmap for rural connectivity through broadband. <br/>Deliberations on a series of issues including Telecommunication Trends and regulatory reforms, spectrum management and Telecommunication and IT for the development of health and education, Cyber security and Capacity Building will be held in eth summit. About 1200 delegates from over 100 countries are taking part in eth 12-day international conference.<br/><br/>
