The Income Tax department is conducting raids in about 60 locations across India in connection with the alleged financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games. Raids are being conducted in Delhi and adjoining areas, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and in other cities on suppliers to the games. Official sources said, the I-T probe will specifically look into the tax evasion in the contracts awarded by the Games Organising Committee. The department had on October 19 carried out similar searches on four major consortiums, including those related to BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal.The raid comes a day after; the Enforcement Directorate questioned CWG Organising Committee Director General V K Verma. He was questioned for marathon ten hours in connection with its probe into alleged financial irregularities in organizing the sporting extravaganza. Official sources said, Verma was grilled at length on the alleged irregularities in the Queen's Baton Relay held in London last year and also on issues concerning overlays work.
