ISRO to launch navigation satellite IRNSS-1E today

The Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO will launch India's navigation satellite IRNSS-1E today morning at 9:31 hours using the launch vehicle PSLV-C31 from the spaceport at Sriharikotta. It is the fifth in a series of seven satellites to be launched, to make the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System fully operational. <br/><br/>The navigation system will aid terrestrial, air and maritime transport apart from giving standard positioning services at par with the GPS to all users freely. Talking to AIR, ISRO chief spokesperson Dr Deviprasad Karnik said the service would cover the whole of India and over 1500 kilometre distance in all directions from the borders of the nation. <br/><br/>The second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikotta is busy with ISRO scientists proceeding with the count-down process at a feverish pace for the country's first satellite launch of the year. The filling of the fourth stage of the rocket PSLV C-31 with the liquid fuel has been completed. <br/><br/>The ISRO spokesperson told AIR, the second stage filling is expected to be over by midnight tonight. The satellite will be put into a sub-geosynchronous orbit in about 19 minutes 20 seconds from the time of the launch.
