ISRO to initiate work on Mars mission

Indian Space Research Organisation will soon initiate work on Mars mission. The ISRO Chairman Dr.K Radhakrishnan informed this to media persons in Mysore today. He disclosed that the final phase of approval is awaited for the project to send a sattelite around Mars. Speaking about Chandrayaan II mission scheduled in 2014, the Chairman said the cryogenic engine and sub-systems of GSLV launch vehicle are undergoing tests. He added that the engine and the sub-systems have already undergone 40 tests. Dr. Radhakrishnan was hopeful that the cryogenic stage in the vehicle will be ready by November this year and all the ground tests will be completed by Januarty next year. Thereafter two GSLV launch are planned before using the vehicle for Chandrayaan II. Dr.Radhakrishnan also informed that India's first dedicated astronomy satellite ASTROSAT which is scheduled for launch next year will act as a space lab offering interesting data to Indian and foreign scientists.
