ISRO realigns orbit of Mars mission spacecraft 'Mangalyaan'

Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman A.S.Kiran Kumar has said, ISRO has successfully realigned the orbit of its Mars Orbiter Mission 'Mangalyaan' and it is not affected by long-duration eclipse. Talking to media persons at Ahmedabad, he said, ISRO successfully maneuvered the orbit planes of the Mission to enhance the capacity of battery. <br/><br/>He said, Mars orbiter was not getting sun lights during eclipse, so they have changed the direction of orbit plane to cut the eclipse duration. Mr. Kumar said, maneuver was carried out successfully on Tuesday evening and there was no eclipse effect noticed yesterday. He said, Mars Mission has still 30 kilograms of energy, which will provide service for many more years.<br/><br/>The ISRO Chairman said, Chandrayan -II will be launched in 2018. He said, several experiments are being conducted for soft landing of Chandrayan-II on Moon surface. Mr. Kumar said, engines and other equipments are being tested on artificial lunar surfaces created at Mahendragiri (Odisha) and also in Karnataka.<br/><br/>He said, South Asia Satellite will be launched in March which will help India and its neighboring countries in telecommunication, broadcasting and disaster monitoring. In reply to a question, Mr. Kumar said, ISRO is expecting more funds from the Union budget for Science and Technology to meet its requirements for more satellite launching and to increase its capacity.<br/><br/>Our correspondent reports that the ISRO Chairmen was in Ahmedabad for the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Gujarat Technological University. Governor of Gujarat O.P.Kohli and State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama were also present on this occasion.
