Israeli PM calls off trip to nuclear conference

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has called off his trip to Washington next week to attend a conference on the spread of nuclear weapons.The Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post quoting officials of Prime Minister’s office has reported that the visit has been called off fearing Israel would be singled out over its own nuclear facilities. Country’s Intelligence Minister Dan Meridor will attend the conference now. Earlier Mr. Netanyahu had said he would attend the conference to underline the dangers of terrorists acquiring nuclear weapons but suddenly called off the trip amid fears that Turkey and Egypt plan to lead a motion demanding that Israel open its nuclear facilities for international inspection. In Washington, National Security Council spokesperson Mike Hammer confirmed that Israel had informed the US about the decision.
