Israel refuses to extend moratorium on settlement constructions in West Bank

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will not extend moratorium on settlement construction in the West Bank. He, however, indicated, there will be some limits on construction. The ten-month partial construction freeze is set to end September 26.The issue will be high on the agenda when Mr. Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas meet for a new round of peace talks Tuesday in Egypt, hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The Palestinian President has threatened to quit the West Asia peace talks if construction resumes. President Obama has urged Mr. Netanyahu to extend the freeze on settlement construction so long as talks are moving in a constructive way.But Israeli Cabinet Minister Yuval Steinitz of the ruling Likud Party said Israel's position is clear. He said the 10-month construction freeze will end on schedule on September 26th, according to a previous decision of the Israeli Cabinet.
