Israel today said, violent incidents in countries like India and Pakistan in the past one month which claimed 500 lives have been ignored by international community, while it is being condemned for its defensive actions. Facing global criticism for attacking an aid flotilla, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told the

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that in the past month alone 500 people were killed in various incidents in Thailand, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and India. A Foreign Ministry statement said in Jerusalem, while the international community remained silent and passive, and generally ignored the occurrences, Israel is being

condemned for unmistakably defensive actions. This is the first time that Israel has dragged India into a controversy. New Delhi has already condemned the Israeli attack on the aid flotilla to the Gaza Strip saying there was no justification for indiscriminate use of force. In an emergency session yesterday, the UN Security

Council called for an investigation into Israel's deadly commando raid on ships taking humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip on Monday, condemning the act that resulted in the loss of at least nine lives.

Meanwhile, Israel has released hundreds of activists arrested during Monday's deadly flotilla raid as international pressure mounts for a full investigation into the incident. More than 600 people on board the boats were taken into custody, but until last night only a fraction had been released. More than 100 were freed late yesterday across the border to Jordan and 130 Turkish citizens are now waiting for flights home or have already left. The accelerated deportations came after two days of calls by global leaders for Israel to release the detainees who were taken off six aid ships. As condemnation of Israel grew, the country's security cabinet held a late-night session and agreed to release all detainees within 48 hours.
While, the United Nations Human Rights Council will hold a debate today on Israel's military interception of an aid flotilla heading for the Gaza Strip. The Spokeswoman for the Council, Claire Kaplun said in a statement in Geneva that the request for the debate was tabled by the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Conference.
