Israel announces new policy on Gaza blockade; EU and US welcomes
Under a new policy on Gaza blockade, Israel has published its "black list" of goods, which will not be allowed into the Gaza Strip. The goods not mentioned in the list will be allowed in the territory.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement last evening that the banned products include arms and munitions and items, which could be used to develop, produce or enhance the military capabilities of the Gaza militias. Also forbidden are what the ministry called materials and equipment liable to be used for terror attacks and technology that could be used by terrorists. Such material includes chemicals – such as certain fertilizers, ball bearings, fireworks and missile-related technology. Certain building materials will be allowed into the enclave only to facilitate construction projects in Gaza, which have been authorized by the Palestinian Authority and are implemented and monitored by the international community including UN.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri dismissed Israel's new policy terming it worthless and demanded that the blockade be lifted entirely. The White House has welcomed the changes as Prime Minister Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaches Washington todayfor a meeting with President Barack Obama. International Mideast envoy Tony Blair said Israel's measures should have a dramatic influence on the daily lives of the people of Gaza and on the private sector.
