Islamic State group fighters re-enter Syria's Palmyra city

Islamic State group fighters have re-entered Syria's famed ancient desert city of Palmyra from which they were driven out eight months ago. <br/><br/>Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said that Islamic State fighters entered Palmyra today and now occupies its northwest. <br/><br/>Head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdel Rahman said that there is also fighting with the army in the city centre. <br/><br/>Islamic State held Palmyra and its nearby ruins for 10 months before it was recaptured by Syrian government forces in March this year. Islamic State destroyed a number of monuments during its occupation of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
