The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a knife attack that killed two women at the main train station in the French Mediterranean city of Marseille on Sunday. <br/><br/>According to the monitoring group SITE, the IS group claimed the attack through a statement posted by its Amaq propaganda agency late Sunday.<br/><br/>The attacker, a man believed to be in his 30s, was shot dead by soldiers set up to guard vulnerable areas in terror-hit France.<br/><br/>Some 200 police officers had cordoned off the area and all roads were closed to traffic, with security forces saying the operation was still ongoing.<br/><br/>French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his outrage at the Marseille attack on his Twitter account. <br/><br/>The latest deaths came with France still on high alert and under a state of emergency following a string of attacks in recent years by extremists linked to the Islamic State group or Al-Qaeda.
