ISI helping Haqqani network vindicates India’s stand on this issue: PM

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that, America's assertion that the ISI was helping Haqqani terror network, has vindicated India's stand on this issue. Talking to reporters on board the special aircraft from Frankfurt to New Delhi on Tuesday, the prime minister said that the world would wake up to the realisation about which India had been talking about for long. He said there is a growing awareness that measures have to be taken to check these forces.

Dr Singh was replying to a question on, the Chairman of US Joint Chiefs Gen. Mike Mullen's statement that Pakistan intelligence agency ISI was helping Haqqani network terror group in launching attacks in Afghanistan.

On the Koodankulam nuclear power project, the prime minister said, he would talk to leaders in Tamil Nadu and find a solution to the controversy over the project. He said, atomic energy is the energy of future and its importance cannot be undermined.

The Prime Minister asserted that the UPA government will last its full five year term and alleged that the opposition was prematurely restless and attempting to force elections. Refuting media reports that there was a rift in the union cabinet, Dr Singh said there was no dissension in the cabinet which was working cohesively.

The Prime Minister said, all ministers including Pranab Mukerjee and Chidambaram enjoyed his full confidence.

Expressing concern over high inflation, Dr Manmohan said the government is taking all steps to contain it. Stating that the high inflation was a global phenomenon, he said food prices were stable and attributed rise in prices of vegetables of vegetables and poultry products to the gap between demand and supply.

Referring to the situation in Libya, the prime minister said Singh said there is a possibility of a Somalia like situation emerging in that country.

On border issues with china, Dr Manmohan Singh said he had been assured by the Chinese leadership that no action will be taken that will hurt India's interests.
