Ishrat encounter case: CBI files supplementary charge sheet against ex IB special director Rajinder Kumar, 3 others

In Gujarat, CBI today filed supplementary charge sheet in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case against former Intelligence Bureau special director Rajinder Kumar and three others. They have been charged for murder and conspiracy in the fake encounter case. However, the second charge sheet in the case has no mention of former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah who was then questioned by the agency.

CBI named Rajinder Kumar, a 1979-batch IPS officer who retired last year, and P Mittal, M K Sinha and Rajiv Wankhede despite denial of sanction to prosecute the officers by law ministry. They have been charged under section 120-B for criminal conspiracy, murder, wrongful confinement, kidnapping, wrongful concealment. Kumar has been additionally charged under Arms Act with CBI alleging that he had provided arms to the accused a day before the encounter took place.

AIR correspondent reports that 19 year old college girl Ishrat Jahan along with Javed Shaikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjadali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an alleged fake encounter on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in 2004. Gujarat police had then claimed that they come to city to kill Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and had links to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
