The Centre has filed a new affidavit in the Gujarat High Court in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, saying it never justified the action of Gujarat police and had no objection to an independent inquiry in the case. The affidavit which was filed yesterday said the Central Government is not concerned with the merits of the action taken by the Gujarat Police and anything stated in the earlier affidavit was not intended to support or justify the action of the State police.<br/><br/>Judicial inquiry in the Ishrat Jahan case by magistrate S P Tamang had concluded that the encounter of Ishrat Jahan was fake.<br/><br/>Later speaking to newsmen, the Home Minister, Mr. Chidamharam said the new affidavit has been filed because the first affidavit was being misinterpreted in certain quarters and used as a shield to defend the correctness or otherwise often alleged encounter. He said the affidavit has got nothing to do with the alleged encounter and, therefore, its purpose is only to share intelligence.<br/><br/>The BJP has critised the Central government for filing the new affidavit .Party spokesman Ravi shankar prasad said that it is a clear cut vote bank politics of the UPA government to ignore the national security. He said that it is a question mark on the credibility of our intelligence Agency IB . He said the Home minister P. Chidambaram is prejudiced aganist Gujarat Chief minister Mr. Narendra Modi and already has spoken aganist him several times.
