ISAF welcomes Afghan Govt’s reconciliation program

In Afghanistan, NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has welcomed the reconciliation program launched by Afghan government recently to make militants renounce violence. Addressing a press conference today, Major General Phil Jones said there is no military solution to the insurgency and only an enduring political process will assure the future of Afghanistan.

Mr. Jones who heads the reintegration cell in ISAF said the program seeks to initiate grievance resolution, help resolve grievances and maintain dignity for all involved in the process. It aims to bring those militants back to their community who are willing to renounce violence and accept Afghan constitution.

The program follows a resolution by peace consultative Jirga held last month which recommended consultation on seeking ways out for the insecurity and for a lasting peace in the country. Taliban has rejected the program saying they are committed to fight till the foreign forces leave the country.
