Ireland post their highest Test score of 492 against Sri Lanka

Ireland posted their highest test score of 492, riding on centuries from all-rounder, Curtis Campher and Paul Stirling in the second test against Sri Lanka at Galle. Ireland resumed from the overnight score of 309 for the loss of full wickets on the second day of the final test.

Earlier on day one, the visitors recovered from a wobbly start to stabilise their innings before going past their previous highest score of 339. The recovery was led by skipper Andy Balbirnie who contributed 95 runs. Balbirnie teamed up with Paul Stirling to put on 115 runs for the fourth wicket. On a track providing ideal batting conditions and against a tired Sri Lankan bowling attack, the visitors piled up a mammoth score as against their poor outing in the first test. In reply, Sri Lanka started well with the score of 81 for no loss at stumps on the second day as bad light ended play 30 minutes earlier than scheduled. Prabath Jayasuriya was the pick of Sri Lankan bowlers with five scalps. Jayasuriya is now just 2 wickets away from becoming the fastest to 50 test wickets.

Sri Lanka had won the first test by an innings and 280 runs.
