IRCTC running e-catering service in trains on pilot basis: Railway Minister

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said his ministry is taking many steps to serve quality and hygienic food at reasonable and affordable rates in trains. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr Prabhu said e-catering service has also been started by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on pilot basis for one year in trains without pantry car. He said passengers can book their choice of meals through e-catering website as well as through phone and SMSs. He said Janta meals and low cost affordable regional cuisine are also being provided through e-catering service. Mr Prabhu informed, e-catering services are provided on 1,482 trains running without pantry cars. The minister said, it has also started online booking of cabs and porters on 21 railway stations.
