Iraq’s Partial Election results shows Maliki’s coalition leading

The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) of Iraq today said that the counting votes percentage throughout Iraq has reached 66 percent.<br/><br/>Speaking at a press conference The IHEC official Hamdiya al-Husseini said that around 85 per cent of the total results will be announced tomorrow.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, partial results of Iraq's elections show Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki's coalition ahead in seven provinces including, Baghdad, whose 70 seats account for more than a fifth of Iraq's 325-member Council of Representatives and two of Iraq's three biggest provinces Basra and Karbala.<br/><br/>The coalition is also ahead in predominantly-Shiite provinces of Babel, Najaf , Wassit, Diwaniya and al-Muthanna. Former Prime Minister Iyad llawi's secular Iraqiya alliance is leading in five provinces that include Diyala, Salaheddin, Anbar, Ninawa and surprisingly Kirkuk, which was considered the stronghold of Kurdish parties.<br/><br/>A coalition of mostly Shia Muslim religious parties, the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) is showing lead in Thi-Qar and Missan, The Kurdistan Alliance (KA) of the two main Kurdish parties is ahead in the race in Kursd dominated provinces.<br/><br/>Experts say that no single bloc is expected to get the absolute majority to form a government. <br/><br/>More than 6,200 candidates from six major coalitions and other groups contested the parliamentary elections on March 7.
