In Iraq, first session of New Parliament starts today amid efforts to form a new government in the country. No Political block could gain the majority in the election held in March this year. Former premier Iyad Allawi's Iraqiya Alliance won ninety one seats in the election closely followed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's State of Law block, which won eighty nine, much less than 163 seats needed for a majority in the 325-seat parliament. Recently, State of Law has formed a coalition with third-placed block, the Iraqi National Alliance but the newly created group still remains four seats short of the majority.
