Iraqi VP calls urgent meeting of Presidential Board

Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi today called for an urgent meeting of the Presidential Board to take all necessary measures to stop the alleged ‘political deterioration’ in the country. <br/><br/>According to a statement from al-Hashemi’s office, the situation needs a firm and clear response to tackle the unconstitutional and illegal decisions issued by the Accountability and Justice Commission.<br/><br/>Earlier Iraq's general election winner Iyad Allawi has asked the Arab League to intervene with the UN to end his country's political stalemate.<br/><br/>The statements of vice president and Iyad Allawi has come following the decision of Judiciary Appeals Commission to cancel votes related to 52 politicians due to their affiliation with the dissolved Baath Party of former president Saddam Hussain.<br/><br/>The recounting of votes in Baghdad has also been ordered by election commission, which will delay the formation of an Iraqi government.<br/>
