An Iraqi soldier opened fire on US troops guarding one of their commanders as he visited an Iraqi military base on Tuesday, killing two Americans and wounding nine others. The deaths were the American military's first in Iraq since President Barack Obama announced last month that combat operations there had ended. The attack occurred at an army base about 210 kilometers north of the capital Baghdad.
