Iraqi parliamentary poll results' declaration tomorrow

In Iraq, the electoral commission of country is expected to announce preliminary results of parliamentary elections tomorrow, based on votes from about 30 per cent of the polling stations from the election. The counting of votes is underway as officials started the task of tallying the ballots shortly after the polls closed on 7th of this month. Officials say that the job is complicated by a large number of overseas voters, as well as people displaced from their homes during years of sectarian violence. The commission has urged Iraqi political parties to wait for the announcement of official results before declaring victory in the country's parliamentary poll. The result of this election is crucial for stability of Iraq as US forces will completely withdraw from the country by the end of 2011 and they will end their combat operation in August this year.Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has hailed parliamentary elections in Iraq as an important step toward strengthening the country's national unity. Members of the 15-member body issued a non-binding statement congratulating the Iraqi people for demonstrating their continued commitment to a peaceful, inclusive and democratic political process. They said Sunday's elections represent another important step in the political process aimed at strengthening Iraq's national unity, sovereignty and independence.
