Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has proposed to broker direct talks between the Syrian opposition groups and the Syrian regime to find a way out of the 18 month long conflict in the country. He said that the proposed plan would be taken forward by Lakhdar Brahimi, the new UN Special envoy on Syria.
