In Iraq, two police officers and a soldier were killed in attacks by gunmen in Baghdad yesterday. An Interior Ministry source today said Lieutenant Colonel Riyadh Mahmoud Abbas in the Interior Ministry, was shot dead by gunmen using weapons equipped with silencers in Baghdad's western district of Mansour. In another incident, gunmen using silenced weapons shot dead Ali Jasim Mohammed, an officer in the internal affairs department of the Interior Ministry, in Baghdad's northern district of al-Ateifiyah. Also in the capital, gunmen opened fire from their weapons fitted with silencers on an Iraqi army soldier while he was driving his vehicle in al-Amriyah district in western Baghdad. The latest attacks are part of wave of assassinations by insurgent groups against Iraqi security members and government workers.
