The Iraqi presidency council has announced 6th March next year as the date for the country’s parliamentary election.<br/><br/>According to Iraq’s semi-official al-Iraqiya TV the decision has been taken in an emergency session of presidency council.<br/><br/>Iraqi parliamentarians earlier approved the first amendment to the country’s election law, increasing the number of seats from 275 to 325 in next year’s election.<br/><br/>Efforts by the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to hold the election on 18 January next year were hampered after Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi had vetoed the law, ordering it back to the Parliament.<br/><br/>The decision on the election date came as a series of coordinated attacks killed at least 112 people and wounded 197 in Baghdad. It was the worst day of violence in the Iraqi capital in more than two months.<br/>
