Iraq polls: No evidence of foul play, says EC

Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission says it has found no evidence of fraud after manually recounting the votes cast at Baghdad's polling stations. According to reports, Commission's spokesman Qassim al-Abboudi told reporters that the Commission finished the recount of 11 thousand 298 ballot boxes and no violation or fraud has been found. He added that the results would be released on Monday. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called for a vote recount following the March 7 parliamentary elections, in which al-Iraqiya Alliance, headed by Iyad Allawi, won 91 seats while Prime Minister Maliki’s alliance bagged 89 seats.
