Iraq PM gives ministers 100 days to improve performance

Iraq's Prime Minister Nourie al Maliki has said that he is giving his ministers 100 days to improve their performance or risk losing their jobs. A statement by the Council of Ministers has quoted Maliki as having told an emergency meeting for the Council today that he is defining a 100-day period, after which the activities of the government and different ministries would be evaluated. His warning came two days after thousands of protesters across the country demanded better public services. Speaking about recent demonstrations in Iraq, Maliki said, an investigation shall take place about the incidents and violations that took place during the demonstrations. According to Voice of Iraq news agency, Iraq's Parliament Speaker, Usama al-Nujeify, has called for accounting all security forces, who violated the freedom of the demonstrators in Baghdad last Friday and those who stood against the freedom of press. Reports say, government has also decided to conduct provincial elections in the country in three months. Meanwhile, the Governor of West Iraq's Babel Province, Salman Nasser Taha al-Zargany, has presented his resignation from his post today, being the second Iraqi governor resigning in the background of the mass protests that took place in the country over the past few days.
