In Iraq, the electoral commission is expected to announce preliminary results of parliamentary elections on Wednesday, based on votes from about 30 per cent of the polling stations from the election.

The counting of votes is underway as officials started the task of tallying the ballots shortly after the polls closed on 7th of this month. Officials say that the job is complicated by a large number of overseas voters, as well as people displaced from their homes during years of sectarian violence.

The commission has urged Iraqi political parties to wait for the announcement of official results before declaring victory in the country's parliamentary poll.

The result of this election is crucial for stability of Iraq as US forces will completely withdraw from the country by the end of 2011 and they will end their combat operation in August this year.
