Iraq: 132 killed in Baghdad car bombings

In Iraq, at least 132 people have been killed and 520 injured in two car bomb attacks in central Baghdad today. According to police, the blasts went off less than a minute apart near the ministry of justice and the headquarters of the Baghdad provincial administration. The powerful blast destroyed dozens of cars and damaged nearby buildings. The blasts came in quick succession at 10.30 local time as people headed to work in the morning rush hour. Iraqi officials say the number of dead and wounded could rise as rescue workers are still digging through the rubble to search for survivors.Security forces sealed off the al-Jumhouriya bridge and nearby areas. A series of coordinated attacks struck key government organizations, one of them near the green zone on August 19, leaving more than 100 people killed and more than one thousand wounded.
