The leading clerical figure of Iran Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri has passed away at his home in the city of Qom. He was 87. His son, Ahmad, told ILNA news agency today that Ayatollah Montazeri was suffering from an illness.<br/><br/>Ayatollah Montazeri was once designated as a successor to the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini and was instrumental in instituting Iran's new constitution.<br/><br/>
