Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Beirut today on his first visit to Lebanon since he assumed office.During his two-day tour, he is expected to give a speech in Beirut's southern suburb Dahiyeh, Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah's stronghold and will also visit villages on Lebanon's tense border with Israel. The region was devastated during a 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel, and rebuilt partly with Iranian money. The visit sparked a controversy in the country, as Lebanon's pro-Western parliamentary majority worried that Lebanon would become Iran's base in Mediterranean Sea, while Hezbollah sees it a big support to their position in the country.
