The Iranian Parliament (Majlis) has imposed sanctions on 26 US officials, including former defence and intelligence chiefs, for their alleged involvement in the killing of civilians and the torture of suspects in US-run prisons. Iranian channel PressTV reported that the spokesman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Majlis, Kazem Jalali, said last evening that the officials on the list include former Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, commander of US forces in Iraq Raymond Odierno and former FBI chief Thomas J. Pickard. On Tuesday, the US and the European Union imposed their sanctions drive against Iran’s nuclear programme. US imposed measures against Venezuela’s state-owned oil company and EU added more than 100 firms to a blacklist of companies hit by an assets freeze. Iran's foreign ministry rejected the sanctions by the European Union against it over its nuclear programme terming it illogical. Iran is facing four rounds of UN sanctions over its nuclear programme.
