Iranian Govt.TV accuses foreign press

Iranian opposition groups say the authorities have arrested at least eight prominent reformists as part of a new crack-down on anti-Government protests on Sunday.<br/>At least eight people were killed in demonstrations. Iranian Government Television accused foreign press of fomenting the recent Opposition protests calling them destructive acts against the State, people and the property. The Iranian Deputy Police Chief has denied that the police fired on demonstrators during Sunday's protests despite eyewitness accounts to the contrary. He claimed a few people were killed in isolated incidents.<br/><br/>There has been an international outcry against the Iranian suppression of peaceful demonstration. President Obama says, the US joins the international community in condemning the violent and unjust oppression of Iranian citizens. The European Union issued a statement saying that Iran must respect the rights of its people. British Foreign Secretary David Miliband called Sunday's violence tragic and disturbing. German Chancellor Angela Markel called the Iranian action unacceptable. Russia, Iran's traditional ally, called for restraint and compromise.<br/>
