Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced that Iran will start enriching uranium to a level of 20 per cent. According to Iranian news agency, IRNA, he announced this during a public meeting in Iran's central province of Isfahan, on Wednesday evening. President Ahmadinejad said that the nuclear issue is closed and he reiterated that Iran will not abandon its rights. International Atomic Energy Agency in its resolution last month, called on Iran to immediately halt construction of its second enrichment facility.Earlier, World powers had backed a proposal brokered by the UN atomic watchdog under which Iran would send most of its Low Enriched Uranium(LEU) to Russia and France for conversion into nuclear fuel for a research reactor in the capital. Tehran rejected the proposal, insisting that it wanted to hand over its LEU at the same time it receives the 20 per cent enriched uranium, and that the handover must take place inside Iran.
