Iran has tested an optimized version of the solid-fuel Sejjil-2 missile on Wednesday. According to Iran’s news agency ILNA, the Sejil-2 has a longer range than the Shahab-3 missile.

Shahab-3 can reach targets up to 2-thousand kilometers away, which would put Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf within its reach.

Iran had tested the initial version of the two-stage Sejjil-2 missile in May this year and it has been saying that its missiles are not a threat to regional security.

The missile test coincides with increased tension over Iran's nuclear program. Western countries suspect Iran of attempting to build nuclear weapons, but Tehran says, its nuclear program is peaceful and aimed at generating nuclear energy for civilian purposes.
