Iran produces first batch of 20% enriched uranium

Iran has claimed that it has produced the first batch of 20 percent enriched uranium. This was announced by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at a rally marking the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the 1979 revolution on Thursday. Ahmadinejad said, that the first consignment of 20 percent enriched uranium was produced and was put at the disposal of the scientists. He also reiterated that Iran's nuclear programme was not aimed at producing a nuclear weapon. The United States meanwhile has expressed scepticism over Iran's claim. White House Press secretary Robert Gibbs said the Iranian leadership's statements about nuclear prowess were based on politics and not Physics. He added that that even if it is untrue, Ahmadinejad's claim further solidifies the impression of the United States and the international community that Iran's nuclear intentions are not peaceful.
