Iran preliminarily launches long-delayed Bushehr nuclear power plant

Iran has preliminarily launched it long-delayed Bushehr nuclear power plant. IRNA news agency report said the launching ceremony of the country's first nuclear power plant today brought together senior officials from Iran and Russia. After the preliminary launch stage, the nuclear power plant will undergo a number of test stages to reach its final launching stage. On September 4, Iran announced that it connected the nuclear power plant to the national grid with a supply of 60 megawatts to prepare the necessary conditions for initial utilization of the power plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts. Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi yesterday said that at the pre-launch stage the power plant will produce 350-400 magwatts of electricity, namely 35-40 percent of its capacity. He said Iran hoped the capacity of Bushehr nuclear power plant to reach 900-1000 megawatts in the following two to three months.
