Iranian authorities have detained twenty-nine fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. They were detained today for allegedly violating maritime boundary while fishing near Qatar.
Gving this information, founder-president of Tamil Nadu Fishermen Development Trust, P Justin Antony said in a statement in Kanyakumari that due to rough weather, they crossed the Qatar border and entered into Iran. He said the fishermen were detained in IKKISH island of Iran.
Giving the listing of the names of those detained by the Iranian authorities, he said, Indian Embassy officials had met the detained fishermen in jail. He appealed to President Pranab Mukherjee to take necessary steps for the release of the fishermen.
There has been no official word about it so far.
