Iran has shut its border with Iraqi Kurdistan in response to its independence referendum. <br/><br/>Foreign Ministry spokesman said at a press conference that at the request of the Iraqi government, they have closed their land and air borders with Iraqi Kurdistan. <br/><br/>He added, the referendum is illegal and illegitimate. Iran had already announced yesterday that it is stopping all flights to and from Iraqi Kurdistan in response to the vote. <br/><br/>The referendum went ahead today despite strong opposition from Baghdad and its neighbours, as well as Western governments including the United States.
