Iran clarifies uranium enrichment facility for electricity production

Iran has denied that its newly revealed uranium enrichment facility has any other purpose than producing electricity. President Ahmadinejad said Iran had no problems with inspection of the facility by the United Nations Nuclear Agency, the IAEA. But President Obama has issued another warning to Iran to come clear on its nuclear programme or face tougher international sanctions. Mr. Ahmadinejad dismissed statements made by the three western leaders Nicolas Sarkozy of France, Gordon Brown of Britain and Barack Obama. Iran's nuclear chief Ali-Akbar Salehi has said that its newly announced under-construction uranium enrichment facility will be in full compliance with the country's obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). According to Iranian Mehr News Agency, Salehi also declared in Tehran that similar to Iran's other nuclear facilities, the activities of this facility would be within the framework of the IAEA regulations. Iran declared the construction of a new small uranium enrichment facility to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 21st of this month. The announcement comes as P5+1 country are pressuring Iran in the run-up to talks on 1st October. Presidents of US, France and British Prime minister on Sunday asked Iran to come clean with its nuclear program or face sanctions that have bite. The US and several other countries accuse Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, but Iran rejecting the charges, claims that it seeks nuclear technology for electricity generation and has opened its facilities to inspection by the IAEA.
