Iran has claimed that it has produced the first batch of 20 percent enriched uranium. This was announced by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at a rally marking the 31st anniversary of the 1979 revolution yesterday. He said that the first consignment of 20 percent enriched uranium was produced and was put at the disposal of the scientists. But he repeated that Iran's nuclear programme was not aimed at producing a nuclear weapon.Meanwhile the United States has expressed scepticism over Iran's claim. The White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has said that the Iranian leadership's statements about nuclear prowess were based on politics not physics. He added that that even if untrue, Ahmadinejad's claim further solidifies US impression and that of the international community that Iran's nuclear intentions are anything but peaceful.
