Iran is celebrating anniversary of its 1979 Islamic revolution today. According to Iran’s IRIB channel a wide array of activists, social and political bodies unanimously called for Iranians to take part in rallies organised on the occasion. Meanwhile opposition leaders have also announced that they will take part in rallies side by side, regardless of their diverse opinions. But the authorities have pledged to crack down hard if they take place. Earlier the government announced the arrest of several people on charges of preparing to disrupt official rallies.
