The first nuclear talks for a year between Iran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany are starting in Geneva today. The talks come a day after Iran announced that it has produced its first batch of locally mined uranium for enrichment. Four rounds of UN sanctions have been directed at Iran's nuclear programme. So far, Iran has not complied with the resolutions. Iran insists that its programme is for civilian purposes to generate electricity.
