The Ministry Sports Ministry has asserted that the BCCI President N. Srinivasan should tender his resignation on moral grounds till the probe in the IPL spot fixing case is over as there is a conflict of interest.
The Ministry also clarified that it has made no recommendations to the Union Law Ministry to regularise betting in sporting events. Reacting to media reports in this connection, the ministry in a release said that betting is a State Subject and cannot be part of a Central law. The Ministry said it is in favour of a law to curb malpractices in all sports and will send its comments on the bill drafted by the Law Ministry. It hopes to work with the Law Ministry and other stakeholders for the development of a comprehensive law against match and spot fixing.
Earlier, IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla today asked BCCI President N. Srinivasan to step down until the probe against his son-in-law in the spot fixing case is over. Mr Shukla who met BCCI Vice President Arun Jaitley in New Delhi, said they both are of the opinion that Srinivasan should keep himself away while the probe is on. Mr Shukla said he discused the situation arising out of the IPL spot fixing case with Jaitley.
Earlier, Power Minister and BCCI member Jyotiraditya Scindia had also said that his personal opinion was that Srinivasan should step down form the post of BCCI president as a proble is on into spot fixing.
Meanwhile reports from Mumbai say N. Srinivasan has declined to step down.
