Two top BCCI officials, BCCI Secretary Sanjay Jagdale and Treasurer Ajay Shirke have quit putting more pressure on Board President N Srinivasan to step down in the wake of spot-fixing scandal.
They sent their resignations to Srinivasan yesterday, saying they were deeply hurt by recent developments in cricket.
Jagdale, who is also a member of the three-member inquiry commission to go into allegations against CSK Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan and CSK franchise owner India Cements, run by Srinivasan, also opted out of the inquiry committee.
There are indications that more senior functionaries would resign roday.
Bowing to the pressure, Srinivasan has convened an Emergency Working Committee meeting on 8th June hours after information spilled out that the ICC had warned his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan to keep away from bookies at the start of IPL.
Meanwhile, a Mumbai court has extended police custody of Vindoo Dara Singh and Gurunath Miyappan till Monday. Mumbai Crime Branch recorded the sttement of Chennai hotlier Vikram Agarwal, a friend of Meiyappan and Chennai police raided his premises for more evidence relating to betting scandal.
Breaking his silence, Sachin Tendulkar has expressed concern over, what he called, shocking and disappointing developments that have rocked Indian cricket and asked the authorities to take sincere steps to get to the root of the issue.
The champion batsman, who retired from IPL after his side Mumbai Indians won the title recently, said it has always hurt him when the game of cricket is in the news for wrong reasons.
