The player retentions for this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) were held in Mumbai yesterday. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is back with Chennai Super Kings, the side which is making a return to the league after a two-year ban for their involvement in the 2013 spot fixing and betting case. Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina were Chennai's other two retentions.Rajasthan Royals, which is also making a comeback, retained Australian skipper Steve Smith.Royal Challengers Bengaluru got back Indian captain Virat Kohli, with AB de Villiers and Sarfaraz Khan being the other two picks.Mumbai Indians had the league's most successful captain Rohit Sharma back into their side.Aussie David Warner remained with Sunrisers Hyderabad along with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.One of the notable names not to be retained was long-time Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir, who is now back in the auction pool. West Indians Sunil Narine and Andre Russell were the two retentions by Kolkata.Kings Eleven Punjab had left-arm spinner Axar Patel back in their ranks, while South African Chris Morris and young guns Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are back with Delhi Daredevils.The 11th edition of the IPL will begin on the 4th of April and continue till 27th May.
